Kontact / Kmail Should Use Activities Data

Why is it that Kontact/Kmail don't take advantage of KDE activities? Activities is not a bad concept but it seems like every application has it's own quirk that makes Activities more effort to use than if I just ignored the entire Activities feature. For example, KMail should either let me have seperate instances per activity, or let me link a profile to an activity. I have multiple email accounts and usually I will have a particular email and set of applications I use together. When I am working I will be on my work activity with my company email address, it would be nice to automatically have KMail focus on my work email and hide personal email accounts. Right now it is actually worse and more confusing to use kmail with activities, I am better off using a special Firefox profile logged into gmail on each activity so that the email view is contained to the activity. With KMail I am required to log in to all my emails and share the same kmail instance between every activity, the same applies to other kontact applications like Korganizer.

I would happily add these features myself, but the question I have in my head is: Does anyone actually use activities? Do the any developers use activities? Is the whole activities thing just a half-baked idea that never got finished? I understand a few years ago many people didn't want to switch over to using Activities, but as it stands they are still more effort to use than to just ignore. It seems like it's either time to scrap the whole idea or actually commit the effort to making it useful.

Thanks,
Would love to hear thoughts/opinions of others,
Sincerely,

There are plenty of people out there that use Activities, myself included.

As for the capabilities of Activities, from the Plasma desktop's perspective Activities are fully implemented and supported. Where support may be lacking is Applications' support for different behavior on different Activities, of which Kmail/Kontact is one which doesn't currently provide any Activity-related behavior.

I do think your idea sounds totally plausible with some effort. Perhaps you might propose the idea in the Brainstorm forum to garner interest from the community.
