Hello. Just upgraded KDE to 17.04 on Manjaro Linux, and after reboot Kmail asked me to pass authorisation on Google again to let Akonadi connect to my Gmail mail resources. (google authorisation window) I've entered my google account, then password, then clicked 'Allow' and in the next page I see:
And only thing I can do is to press Cancel (then this window opens again) or close the window. What is this? Where to paste this key? What is happening? I tried to recreate this mailbox in Kmail after I removed all google resources from Akonadi, but returned to the same authorisation window. Now in settings menu I see my IMAP mail as 'not ready'. When I open it's settings I see one star in password field and I can't change it. Weird, but in SMTP settings I see a whole password and can even change it. So, what is happening? Oh, and sorry for my english, hope you understand what I wrote. |

Nobody understands what I wrote, or nobody knows what to do? Where should I ask then?

I have the same problem.
How can I fix it? |

The fault lies in Google. which changed the authorization screens. It's already fixed, but if you don't want to wait till Applications 17.04.1, please ask your distribution to include the following patch:

It seems that it is no longer possible to manually configure a gmail account with imap in kmail. This type of problem breaks kmail for me, and without a workaround, I would have had to install another client as a stopgap measure until the patch works its way through to my distribution. Re-enabling the manual configuration option would at least allow users a workaround if this occurs in the future. In the meantime, anyone struggling with this can get kmail to connect without using OAuth by setting the imap server to imap.googlemail.com. The gmail account will also have to be configured to allow connections from 'less secure' clients.

I've the same problem and I can't even add new accounts or modify existing account on KDE Neon User. Nothing happens when I click the "modify" button.
I guess I'll have to wait, I love KDE too much. |

Those problems with opening the settings should be fixed in 17.04.2:
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=379155 To be released next month. (or sooner, if your distribution backports the fixes...) |

I solved this problem with a little help from another thread - you have to go to your google account settings and get two app passwords. These are one-time use passwords. If you want to access them again, copy them to a text file or something because they cannot be accessed once you close the window in which they are given from Google.
Two are required because one is for your incoming mail authentication and one is for your outgoing mail authentication. Good luck |

App passwords are not a solution in my case and Kmail is effectively unusable because of this.
My problem is that my organization has disabled both 'less secure apps' and 'app passwords' per their security policy. I'm installing Thunderbird as I write this, as much as I don't like this option. |

Hi there.
Maybe this helps someone: to make use of an app password you need to change the authentication mechanism for your IMAP account! Open the account setting, switch to the "Advanced" tab and select "PLAIN" in the dropdown for "Authentication" (by default "Gmail" is selected). The same needs to be done for the SMTP server.
