Hi all,
I'm trying to use VIM as my external editor for KMail, and pretty much every page on the internet (and the KMail documentation) says: "No problem - just enter 'vim -f' in the external editor option under "Composer-General" of the KMail settings. However, there is no such option on my KMail settings. Am I doing something wrong? My KMail version is 5.5.1 (installed via Manjaro repos). ![]() Does anyone know if there is hope for some vim goodness for me? Thanks, Tobi |

"use external editor" option is on the plugins page of KMails settings dialog in Composer Plugins

Do I need to install an external package for that? There are no real plugins showing for me either - this is the screenshot:

In master build from sources you do not need to install external package for that. I have no clue about distro packages wrt this issue. |

Thanks! I have not been able to find a suitable plugin in the Arch repos - does any fellow Arch user know which package contains this?

I don't think it's in a released tarball yet: probably Applications 17.08 at the earliest.

Fellow Archlinux user here, the external editor is at Settings → Configure KMail → (tab) Modules → (module name) "Open external composer". I'm curious though how did it get there — I seem to recall it being somewhere in settings last time I used KMail. EDIT: note — it requires to restart KMail to start working. |

Never mind — it doesn't work, KMail just sent an empty mail to a mailing list because of this. I reported a bug https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=388015 *sigh* every time I'm trying to migrate to KMail, somethings hindering me. |
