Use IMAP with imap.gmail.com

Wed Nov 01, 2017 9:17 pm
Is there some way to use regular IMAP with imap.gmail.com ?

KMail (5.5.1 in Fedora 26), when I put in that server name, forced a Google login. But this does not work reliably in my case because of corporate two-factor authentication. It stopped working and is not even asking me to authenticate again.

I can very well create an "app password" for IMAP im GMail. But for that I'd need regular IMAP, and KMail is just not letting me have it!

So how do I go about creating a normal IMAP account for imap.gmail.com ?

Well, it seems Google's support pages still carry this, but I'm not fully sure how relevant everything (still) is.

So:

Code: Select all
Incoming Mail (IMAP) Server
imap.gmail.com

Requires SSL: Yes

Port: 993

Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server
smtp.gmail.com

Requires SSL: Yes

Requires TLS: Yes (if available)

Requires Authentication: Yes

Port for SSL: 465

Port for TLS/STARTTLS: 587

I used something similar a few months back when I was testing Opera Mail and things worked pretty good back then. So.. who knows. Hope this can help.
