KMail 17.12 won't install in neon

Sun Dec 17, 2017 3:50 pm
I get the following message from aptitude:

The following NEW packages will be installed:
libkpimsmtp5{a}
The following packages will be upgraded:
kde-config-mailtransport libkf5mailtransport-data libkf5mailtransport5{b} libkf5mailtransportakonadi5
4 packages upgraded, 1 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
Need to get 275 kB of archives. After unpacking 242 kB will be used.
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
libkf5mailtransport5 : Breaks: kio-smtp (< 17.12) but 17.08.3-0neon+16.04+xenial+build34 is installed.
The following actions will resolve these dependencies:

Remove the following packages:
1) kdepim-runtime
2) kio-smtp
3) kmail
4) knotes
5) kontact
6) korganizer

Leave the following dependencies unresolved:
7) kontact recommends kmail
8) kontact recommends knotes

Seems like kio-smtp is broken. On a side note, it seems like KMail is always breaks like this somehow after a major upgrade. Is it very hard to build and get all the dependencies correct??

Thanks for any info you can provide.

KMail now installs (kio-smtp fixed), but now it can't send any emails through GMail :( I can't help but think this is related, since the very thing that prevented KMail from being installed (kio-smtp) is exactly the component that is now broken (sending messages through SMTP).
