Hello everyone,

I'm troubled with a high memory consumption of resources when I start my kontact - the issue is not a 100% reproducible. I'm trying to identify the issue so I can file a concrete bug report. But I'm unsure where to start.

When I started my system I noticed a lot of disc activity and unresponsiveness of my system. Checking the processes I noticed akonadi_notes_agent and korgac using lots of resources (each 3.6 G). I then stopped akonadi (akonadictl stop) which took a moment but it exited cleanly. I then killed korgac. A kontact I started in between now was also in the process of grabbing lots of memory. So... I terminated it via menu (tricky due to unresponsiveness) and it exited cleanly. Back to square one.

I started akonadi (akonadictl start). akonadi_notes_agent took its share of memory with high disc activity and the mysqld of akonadi having high cpu load (~1 core). It stopped its activity at 3.6G. And I could still use the system. I fiddled a bit with akonadictl and did some fsck. Took me a while to realize that it did some trick (though I did not notice anything I would consider a warning or error being detected) and the memory for akonadi_notes_agent went down! 3M now.

I started Kontact next - korgac still reqires 3.6G of memory, but not Kontact. korgac released the memory after some time (the time it took to write this).

Next i quit Kontact. Then I stopped akonadi. korgac was still running normally. Then I started akonadi. And akonadi_notes_agent started its hunt for memory and korgac was thrilled to follow it. I killed korgac to do anything.

So much for the story. I would categorize it as "misbehaving". And having everything running in parallel while it uses this high amount of memory for no reason visible and three processes fighting for resources and making the system unusable is clearly a big big issue.

So my question: where to start debugging this issue?
Log Files. Running some magic in akonadiconsole.

42: There is no other answer. There are only different ways to express it.

Hi, I also have this problem.
Please, have you found a solution?

After login, my system becomes unresponsive because akonadi_notes_agent and korgac keep using disk (read several MB/s), using several GB memory, while mysqld uses 100% of one CPU core.
The only solution I found is stopping akonadi or killing those processes manually (before it all hangs).
Other akonadi agents keep using 1% CPU all the time for no apparent reason.

I have Fedora 28, but upgraded from previous release.
I am considering clean install of F29

Thanks
