Im desperately trying to change to Kontact from Thunderbird since TB 60+ has now lost its tray integration due to loss of a very important addons that are now gone.

One of my 7 IMAP accounts keeps failing to validate even though my login credentials are correct. When this happens (every few hours) i get a popup dialogue which i have to click "try again" which works, i can read my mail and send from this account. It continues to work fine for another few hours until it happens again.

How do i stop it from notifying me and just silently keep trying (as my login details are correct) or stop it from failing at all?

Iv used TB for years and iv never seen this failure with this email account ever before.

Kmail is the last and only email client that KDE has that works with the tray properly and im desperate for it to work, please assist. Thx.

Could you please double-check in the IMAP accounts's settings in the "Advanced" tab, that the selected "Authentication" method is set "PLAIN"?

Looks like AOL supports some form of XOAUTH2 authentication, which maybe confusing KMail into thinking it's talking to Gmail (which is the only server where we support the XOAUTH2 login atm).

Yes it was definitely set to PLAIN , I have removed the account now as i decided to just drop AOL all together because of this problem. Its going to take me a lot of work to change all the sites/accounts that my AOL account is tied to (it was my very first email account, so its OLD) however if you make a suggestion to try and fix this i shall re-add the aol account and give anything a try.

well, I got a big stable update today that included :-
    kmailtransport (18.04.3-1 -> 18.08.0-1)
    kimap (18.04.3-1 -> 18.08.0-1)
    akonadi (18.04.3-1 -> 18.08.0-1)
    kmail (18.04.3-1 -> 18.08.0-1)

and 200+ others, i have no idea if this update will change anything in my case because im sure changes/fixes can not be implemented that quickly but i have re-add my AOL account regardless just to see what happens. I have made 100% sure that the advanced authentication setting is set to PLAIN. we shall see how we go, fingers crossed.
