I am a long time KDE user who has always used Thunderbird for my email but in the recent process of installing a new distro version I decided to give KMail a try instead. I'm still trying it, so I haven't been chased away by any of the differences yet, but there is one issue that could be a deal breaker for me.
I can see how to configure the KMail notificaitons, in fact I disabled the successful sent mail notifications but I still want to receive new mail notifications and send error notifications. However, when I quit KMail, I'm still getting notifications about new mail, I guess because Akonadi is still running and still receiving the new email. I DO NOT want this. When I close my mail application, one reason I do that is to eliminate distraction: I do not want to know if I am receiving email until I open my mail app again. Is there a way I can get the new mail notifications only when KMail is actually running (open or minimized to systray), but not after I close it? thanks, Jason |

Well, this is moot now. KMail appears to be completely broken with the update to KDE Apps 18.08, so back to Thunderbird regardless.
