I LITERALLY DID NOT SEE THIS when I was setting up what I posted in my other thread.

BUT AGAIN....Kmail WORKS!!!! :)

In Kmail...

add account...

in the popup box in identities...

identities

add an identity with empty fields no need except to add a name and get a blue bar, click the bar so that it is highlighted
go to receiving tab
click add
click custom account

THE ABOVE IS WHY I DID NOT SEE THE NEXT.....possibly there should be some "small amount of words" added to attract the attention of a NEW TO LINUX PERSON...such as "custom account such as a corporate or education account". Which avoids the use of the words Microsoft(tm) or Outlook(tm)

For the "old folks" one will see what was "the original" Akonadai setup" box.

choose Microsoft exchange server ( it is at the bottom )
it requests the e-mail of the “organization”
it requests “your name” and your password.
It starts but then says that the " akonadai server is broken".

but in the GENERAL TAB.... go through the NORMAL STEPS....but...there is a new item, for me at least:

One should tick:

OAuth2(office 365)

Below that ...

In EWS Settings

click “server autodiscovery” and then the PERFORM button.

it will check and an url ends up in the EWS URL.....

click “Try connect”...

A ..."box" appears that does not have the same “theme” as Neon, but it asks one to again enter e-mail and password.

and...it works...simple as that.

I did NOT have to enter private keys although it did say that the college has them but does not request them for an e-mail so I ticked “send as is”.

If one does NOT tick the Oauth2 then one gets a “server 049 not configured".

The receiving tab shows the akonadai resource which one might want to rename

in sending it showed the colleges e-mail.. okaay....

I tested by sending an e-mail to another account and it worked.

in the accounts panel it appears as "akonadai resource 01" and has all of the folders etc. that the college has.

PLEASE NOTE THAT I DID NOT HAVE TO GET ANY OF THE NORMAL IMAP STUFF THAT THE COLLEGE GAVE ME..

IT JUST WORKED

The Exchange plugin for Akonadi is a recent addition to KDE applications: https://micreabog.wordpress.com/2017/10 ... f-kde-pim/, and it looks like quite a bit of effort was added this last October to get it working with OAuth2. I'm glad to hear that you actually have it working.

Hi airdrik

Thank you for the very nice reply. :)

Yes, I agree, I've been fiddling with this for literally years and now, all of a sudden, everything seems to just work! :)

His import functions are QUITE SEAMLESS and I would congratulate him if possible.

The ONLY real quibble that I have is that if I, with all this ....well dunno if it is "experience" , most would say failure, time involved was not "aware" of a function because of the typical "one word" descriptions, and these ARE NOT HIS.....there are just part of the way that it has "always been done" starting with beloved Microshaft... then dunno...

I really DO think that Kmail, because of his work really IS pretty much "ready for prime time" if it continues to work for the next year or so.

And then one would have to really think about a totally NEW person "to Linux" trying to set up the accounts from Gmail or Outlook(tm).

I'm not a coder, I'm more "trying to get it to crash" and studying "front ends"...going back to my days in the Navy ( 60's).

I quite know that it "sounds stupid" but I regularly, every few months or sometimes more often after there has been a lot of updating, delete accounts and try to get them to work again, and it really has happened that a few times a working account would not work after removing and restarting. I mean, what's with that! ?

But, again, THANK YOU!! :)

and thank you for ONE VERY BIG REASON......I really was kind of worried that the whole thing with the Outlook(tm) on the cloud working so well was "what if it is because MS has decided to "play nice" for a while and then, like Charlie Brown and Lucy they jerk the football away." ..but since he has done it on his own, that gives me reassurance that it should probably work for the foreseeable future.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS !!!!

I've been fighting with Kmail to get it working with office365 since november, and had in the end to go all the time on the outlook's web page... so painful!
Now i have all my mails on kmail again! You made my day!

But please, the GUI has to be updated, it works (And thanks SO MUCH for making it working again), but it is not intuitive at all.

Thanks again!!
Cheers!!

Unfortunately I am unable to get Office 365 working with kmail. Followed the instructions in the original post. I can get to stage where it pops up window with the login page for my institution. After entering my password I then get the following error: "Failed to process EWS request: Access to restricted port in POST denied".

I followed the steps and almost made it, but was presented with the "Failed to process EWS request: Access to restricted port in POST denied."

Long story:

In the dialog "Microsoft Exchange Configuration - Microsoft Exchange Server (EWS)", I put:
Account Information
Name: TEST
Email: <my full corporate email>

Autentication
* OAuth2 (Office 365)

EWS Settings
First, I tried "Server Autodiscovery" Perform. It failed with "Failed to process EWS request - HTTP code 401".

So, I'm not sure where the logs go for this. Anyways, I then put my domain name of my email address and pressed "Try connect". I got a small new window, giving the web page where I wrote my password, and got a text message with authentication code, inserted it, chose "Do not ask for 60 days", OK, but then
"Failed to process EWS request: Access to restricted port in POST denied."

So, what to do?

I would recommend filing a case to bugs.kde.org. It sounds like they've put some kind of restriction on one of the EWS resources that the akonadi exchange resource relies on.

Hi,

have you seen a way to override somewhere O365 settings, so one can specify the tenant, application ID and Redirect URI?

Cheers!
