Akonadi timeout

Wed Mar 20, 2019 7:18 am
Hi,

Akonadi is causing me a lot of headaches lately. KMail constantly fails to load the body of e-mails. When I enable logging in Akonadi Console, I can see lots of errors like these:

Code: Select all
"Lock wait timeout exceeded; try restarting transaction QMYSQL3: Unable to execute statement"
QueryBuilder::exec(): database reported transaction timeout, retrying transaction
"Lock wait timeout exceeded; try restarting transaction QMYSQL3: Unable to store statement results"

When I restart Akonadi, sometimes it works for a minute or two, but sooner or later I get these problems again.

Already tried

Code: Select all
akonadictl fsck

and

Code: Select all
akonadictl vacuum

as well as several reboots, all to no avail.

Any help would be appreciated.

(Besides that, I'm hoping for an IMAP e-mail client in the Vivaldi browser...)

You aren't alone, this has been annoying me for a few weeks. I didn't note carefully enough to tie it to a pkg update unfortunately. I'll try see can I tie it together into some semblance of a timeline...

I ended up moving `~/.local/share/akonadi` out of the way (while the Akonadi service was stopped), thereby forcing the database to be regenerated. Now I have not had this problem any more since a couple of days. However, in KMail, deleted messages have now started to reappear after a few seconds, only to vanish again after a certain amount of time. Don't know if this is related to Akonadi, but it definitively only started after I had renamed the Akonadi directory.

The problem has reappeared, and I now suspect it is a problem with KMail.

With an apparently hanging Akonadi service, when I quit KMail (CTRL+Q), I get a notification that KMail has crashed, but the KMail process is still lingering and cannot be killed with SIGTERM, only SIGKILL.

  • Closing KMail (CTRL+Q), lingering process, restarting Akonadi, restarting KMail: problem persists
  • Restarting Akonadi without touching KMail: no solution
  • Closing KMail, killing lingering process with SIGKILL (-9), restarting Akonadi, restarting KMail: a notification is shown that akonadi_imap_resource has crashed, but problem solved, messages appear again (for a certain while)

Maybe this helps someone more apt than me to troubleshoot the problem.

I believe I'm having a similar issue. It's hard to tell what exactly causes it but in my case, it seems to crop up when I start moving emails between accounts (such as Hotmail emails to KolabNow). Also, in my case (I understand it's still technically the same application) this occurs when using Kmail inside of the Kontact suite (in which case, it's the Kontact process that hangs and needs SIGKILL).

This maybe related to some active bug reports (such as Bug 400851 but I saw a few others). I sent my own bug marked as a possible duplicate and will post any updates I get.

Yes, that seems to be a possibility. It so happens that I used to have to use two IMAP servers, and moved mails between them, until recently. Now I only have one IMAP server that I connect to, and the problem did not occur again. Of course, this is just an observation, not a proof.

This appears fixed in the 19.04 app updates from Neon... I've not had the same timeout from kmail talking to akonadi
