Hey Guys,
I have custom settings for my 2 identities as to what to do with sent mail, drafts and archives. However, KMail still uses the local folders instead. I feel like the whole local folder thing is hurting the KMail experience in general. I tried to use my Neomutt maildir as my inbox. That only worked for one session then breaks the next. I tried to set a custom folder for my "local folders", that broke and proceeded to pollute hundreds of folders with maildir subfolders in my home and .local directories. It would also add a file: directory to my home dir because it can't parse paths properly. I'm going to keep using KMail because I super enjoy the Kontact suite, but I'd love to know what the next steps are for my mail folder settings would be. It's a little boring to have to move all of my sent/trashed/draft messages back into my imap folders manually (and mark them as opened). I use arch, btw.
Using kmail2 5.13.1 (19.12.1) Using a "Custom Account" for IMAP because a regular mail account refuses to work with my IMAP settings. |

Did you attached your identities to the reciving (IMAP) accounts ? They should know about the identity to use and which folders for sent mail, drafts and templates are to use ... |

Thank you for your response. I've gone through the settings and there's no way to designate which identities "belong" to my 1 and only receiving account. I send from 2 email addresses. Both of my identities have designated the same SMTP account. If it's assigning the SMTP account you're referring to, that also does nothing in my case. |

Your picture shows the settings for identity. I meant the settings panel for your IMAP reciving account (tab Advanced). You can also choose an identity, if you create/edit a new mail. See the "Identity:" combo box below tool bar.

Here's my settings for the receiving account. It was already picking my default identity (which is correctly set). I tried setting it to an explicit identity. It made no difference. |

The picture from your previous post shows the identity Personal with folders for Sent Items and Drafts within IMAP Account Mailfence. I make sense to attach the identity Personal to IMAP account Mailfence. Then, if any folder below account Mailfence is selected and you start to write a new mail, the identity Personal is used and the mail is saved into Mailfence/Sent Items after sending was finished. This is the idea behind attaching identity to IMAP account and SMTP/Outgoing account to identity and it works for me in three different Kmail versions.
You can also attach an identity to particular mail folder (Folder Properties in conext menu of a mail folder). This has higher priority as the settings in IMAP/Reciving account. Please check, if you have such settings. |

Thank you for trying to help me out here. Let me clarify:
I have one imap account and 2 identities that use the same IMAP account. The identities have the same mail provider, and should use the same folders. The only thing that's different between these identities are the email addresses and signatures. I could try setting my SMTP settings to share the same identity, but it shouldn't matter . Even when I do set my SMTP settings to Personal, it still puts my my messages in the wrong folder. |

Basically, it should work like described above and works perfectly for me and with 7 IMAP accounts and as many identities and SMTP/send accounts configured in Kmail. The only difference i can see is, that you didn't enabled server-side subscriptions. Did it matters ? I don't know

Turning on subscriptions fixed my issue with the trash folder, so that's something! Sent items are still going to my local folder. Is there some sort of debug mode I can turn on? This might be worth looking into more on my end and perhaps submitting as a repository issue. |

That's interesting ... Please click on the button Serverside subscriptions, reload all remote folders and check if folders you use as sent folder and drafts are subscribed. |
