IMAP agent stuck trying to do something it can't manage to

One of the IMAP agents on my laptop is trying to "Adding item", but for some reason it can't.
akonadiconsole debugger tab shows an AgentBase message like "Multiple merge candidates in collection '<folder name>', aborting".
Before this, a similar pattern was happening with another task ("Append failed, server replied: A000320 NO Folder is found. [TRYCREATE]"). It is true that the folder it is trying to access does not exist.
Now the problem: these tasks are queued (under the name of "ChangeReplay") as soon as the agent is online, and block all the following tasks, making the mail box unusable.
I have not figured out how to tell Akonadi to give up with them... I suppose it is attempting to update the IMAP server with some change that happened locally, but at this point I would gladly lose those changes and recover the use of the mail box.
"Aborting" does not help, as apparently the task is still queued.
If I set the agent off line, queue a synchronisation task, then set it back on line, it usually starts performing the synchronisation, but soon it also queues the ChangeReplay task and we are immediately stuck again.
Restarting the agent or the server does not help, as it immediately queues the offending tasks. A random sequence of file system checking and vacuuming did not help neither.
Because of the many mail filters associated to this agent, creating a new one is unpractical (or so I believe: not an expert on the suibject).

I want to tell Akonadi to forget the local changes not yet propagated to the IMAP server and work with what is in there. How can I tell it to?
Thank you.
