Problems checking mail

Thu Apr 23, 2020 6:34 pm
I've recently started to experience an odd problem with KMail - although mail appears to be arriving OK I'm unable to use 'File -> Check Mail in' from the menu for one of my accounts.

I have one account named 'Curlew', which collects IMAP mail from dovecot running on the same PC, three different Gmail accounts and Local Folders. I can check mail in the Gmail accounts and Local Folders without problems but if I attempt to check mail in Curlew i get a pop-up from 'Dr Kong' saying "Curlew Closed Unexpectedly Please report this error to help improve this software" and the progress bar for retrieving folders from Curlew sits at 0% for a while before disappearing.

Despite this, new mail does appear in the inbox for Curlew when KMail makes it's regular scheduled checks, the problem only seems to occur with manual checks.

I've tried using Akonadi Console to restart the Akonadi server. That didn't make any difference but it did report numerous errors which I expect could be relevant. The first two errors in .local/share/akonadi/db_data/mysql.err waere
Code: Select all
2020-04-23T15:47:22.744351Z 0 [ERROR] Can't open and lock privilege tables: Table 'mysql.servers' doesn't exist
2020-04-23T15:47:22.744424Z 0 [ERROR] Native table 'performance_schema'.'cond_instances' has the wrong structure

This was followed by over 400 errors about various tables not being found or having the wrong structure.

These errors look drastic so could well be causing the problem but on the other hand KMail appears to be working correctly in all other respects when I would have expected errors like these to have had a much more dramatic effect.

I'm running kmail-19.12.3 on FreeBSD 12.1-RELEASE

So what should I do to get round this problem?
