Hi. This is my first post in this forum. I read the rules; I intend to update my profile after I post this.
I run KDE software on a Gentoo system. Kernel is 5.10.27; Plasma 5.20.5; Frameworks 5.80.0; Qt 5.15.2. I have made some contributions to KDE documentation. Currently I'm revising the docs for KMail. I ran across this in the FAQ (Handbook Chapter 6).
So just to be sure I understood this, I killed KMail, then restarted it with dbus-launch. It generated a lot of messages, including two instances of this one.
I'm not worried about this message, just curious. KMail runs OK almost all the time. The thing is, I'm using mysql as the back end for Akonadi, and I think mysql has its own indexing scheme built in. So why is KMail (or Akonadi) trying to find a hook into xapian? Is it just real old code? It's no surprise that it can't lock the xapian database; I haven't installed xapian in my system. Just for comparison, when I launch kmail from a terminal without invoking dbus-launch, this is all I see.
Any insight would be appreciated. Oh, yeah. KMail is pretty current: 5.16.3 (20.12.3) -- David Bryant Canyon Lake, Texas |

AFAIK this is just a check whether there is actually a use for xapian. Not necessarily an old code, but to cover all possible information retrieval protocols? Since Akonadi can be used with different kind of databases this would make sense IMHO.
Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ... |
