I have beautiful KDE4.2 installation on fresh FreeBSD 8.0-CURRENT-i386 with Xorg 7.4. Totally fantastic system:shade:
But every login when Akonadi starts I have an impression that I'm using a questionable copy of Windows: some windows open and close, some of them stay open with red "Close" button to report that migration was successful (again and again) or to warn that "no standard resource for "abrakadabra" :-O...it takes quite a while. Is it normal btw? I don't use PIM at all, I'd be glad to try KMail but not at such cost. I read all the threads about Akonadi here and I vote for the best verdict to "skip akonadi for now". But HOW? This
doesn't work for me, Akonadi is immortal. Btw its services together with MySQL consume ~250MB of RAM! Does somebody know how to get rid of Akonadi altogether for real?

I have never experienced Akonadi using 256mb of RAM. Which PIM applications other than KMail do you use?
The Akonadi databases are located at $HOME/.local/share/akonadi

I use none PIM apps and sysmon shows:
mysql=138MB, akonadi_kcal_resour=34MB, akonadi_kabc_resour=33MB, akonadi_vcard_resour=23MB, akonadiserver=15MB, akonadi_control=8MB Total= 251MB. I tried to delete that directory and one more, then I got improvement: no more error "not registered at dbus" but windows still pop up. |

It shouldn't start unless a PIM application requires it. Try disabling the Contacts runner. Alt + F2 > Wrench Icon > Uncheck Contacts item.

It is strange that the migration runs despite having been turned off.
Can you check the kres-migratorrc Configfile if the change you applied is correctly in there? Cheers, _

I unchecked Contacts: no changes.
Yes, migration runs every login. It's successful but it runs again and again. ~/.kde4/share/config/kres-migratorrc: hmm, looks like original file. run again: $ kwriteconfig --file kres-migratorrc --group Migration --key Enabled --type bool false Yes, it has now the section:
Rebooting...Success! No more migration windows. Checking back "Contacts"... logout... the windows gone! Sysmon: everything is running :mysql=138MB, total akonadi=114MB. Starting KMail...just starts normally (57MB in sysmon). Starting KOrganizer...OK. Well, that's already great: no more those pop ups. Thank you guys! So, it looks like now Akonadi works the way it supposed to? And the problem is in migrating? If migration was successful why it kept on migrating on every login? ...I changed back to old resources and removed Akonadi's ones. Perfect! Akonadi is not starting, but MySQL is still there =147MB. Is it needed for something else or it's possible to disable it as well? Anyway, many thanks again! UPDATE: MySQL is not starting anymore. Great!
