I am running openSuse 11.1 on two laptops. I am running KDE 4.2 on both as well.
kmail always starts on logon, it actually delays KDE starting up and I have to wait. Sometimes the kmail window is visible and I can close it, other times it is hidden. If I don't close kmail or kill the process before I start kontact, mail will be in its own kmail window/process. How can I stop this from happening? Many thanks, Royce |

Try checking in $KDEHOME/Autostart. Alternately make sure the application does not have any start on logon option. You will need to check in Kontact as well.

Or probably a program accessing contacts or calendar on an IMAP server is being autostarted.

I don't have anything in the autostart directory, but my contacts and calendar are stored on an IMAP server.
Going to try turning that feature off now to see if it solves the problem. |

Yes I can confirm it is because I have my contacts and calendar stored on my IMAP server.
How do I find out what program/service is invoking the request as it is a bit annoying. Thanks, Royce |

OK, I found out how to "fix" it.
i checked out this post akonadi-again-t-33746.html and disabled the Contacts KRunner. KDE now starts up quickly and I don't have a kmail process lying around when I don't need it. |
