Hi,

my idea is to make KDE more "social". I think of integrating at least KMail, Kontact, Kopete with social networks and online services. My proposals:

  • Facebook contacts are seen online in Kopete
  • Facebook messages are sent/received via KMail
  • Facebook chats are managed via Kopete
  • AddressBook is filled with Facebook contacts (and changes like new email or new phone are automatically updated to address book)
  • Google Calendar is synchronized with KDE Calendar
  • After clicking on contact you have access to last chats, email, facebook messages, photos, twitters, flickrs etc. :)

Etc. Etc. I hope you get the idea :) For inspiration please look at Digsby or Xobni :)

Work is being proposed and discussed currently for the integration of not only Google Calendar but also Google Addressbook ( part of GMail ) which will hopefully be done for KDE 4.3

NOTE: This is a feature that is currently being discussed. No code has yet been committed into /trunk/KDE/ and the features provided by this are not present in trunk at this time.

There is the beginning of an Akonadi resource for Facebook in playground/pim but development on it somewhat stalled.

There is also active development on a similar resource for Google Data, contacts and calendar, also in playground/pim.

Cheers,

It's a great idea. I would love for these features to be implemented. Unfortunately, facebook is like a vault. They don't have imap for messages and using nay kind of program to sync contacts would constitute a violation of their terms of service. Google on the other hand is very open, free imap, import and export of contacts, very groovy.
