I have several POP3 accounts set up in Kmail. All are configured so that Kmail stores the passwords. When Kmail starts up, most of the accounts are checked and any mails downloaded without the need for any intervention. But one single account always causes Kmail to prompt me for the Kwallet password before it gets checked. Apart from the fact that this account is only checked every 15 minutes, whereas most of the others are checked every five, I can't see anything different in the configuration.

Any ideas why a particular account should need Kwallet while the rest don't? It's a very perplexing issue.

I believe there is a per account setting which controls this. "Store password in configuration file" or something like that.

That's right. "Store POP password", which is checked just the same as all the other accounts. And in kmailrc it says "store-passwd=true" for all the accounts.

Strange thing is, the password field on the account dialogue is populated, with the right number of blobs for the length of the password, as if it's saved somewhere. Yet only one account looks like it's saved in kmailrc (line reading "pass=" and what looks like something encrypted).

Maybe try recreating the account to clear up any configuration changes, or re-entering the password to force it to change.

Though only at a second attempt. The problem seems to result from Kwallet being active when the password's typed in, so it automatically gets saved there. Once I'd closed Kwallet down, Kmail prompted me to ask whether I wanted to save the password or not - taking that option solved the problem.
