State of Akonadi and openSync?

Thu Apr 09, 2009 8:21 pm
Hey, I've got a new Blackberry, and I'm trying to figure out how to get it to sync with my contacts. I've got opensync and barry working for me, but now I need to figure out how to get it to work with KDE PIM.

Last I heard, there was an akonadi plugin planned for opensync, and kitchensync couldn't be included with KDE 4.2 because of stability issues with the opensync API.

Anyone know the current state of these things?

FYI, I'm using KDE 4.2.

OpenSync has still not released any new version, I wouldn't hold my breath that they'll do it in time for the hard freeze of the 4.3 release of KDE.

In the mean time you can probably find a way to sync the device with local files and use the same files for KDEPIM or Akonadi.

If we are lucky we'll probably get a Google Summer of Code student working on an alternative, SyncML based, solution, which then maybe available through KDE extragear shortly after 4.3

Cheers,

At the moment there is a package called opensync-plugin-kdepim in the Ubuntu repos. So it seams there is a plugin available now ... (which is according to some pages on the internet compatible with KDE 4.3)

I installed it and configured opensync to use it. The output is very promising like what you would expect. But if I look in korganizer nothing has happend and no events where synced with my google calendar.

Does anyone know something about the current state of Akonadi and OpenSync?

Remember that only kaddressbook is currently (that is, in releases) working with akonadi. The latest information I have on the subject of opensync is from January, when it was said that the existing opensync used KDE3 libraries and probably wouldn't work with KDE 4. However work had already commenced on the KDE 4 version. That being so, I'd be hopeful for the future, but wouldn't risk vital information on the present.

Hi, if I understand it right you want to synchronize your Korganizer calendar with Google Calendar?

If so, I'm using on Kubuntu 9.10 the akonadi-kde-resource-googledata package, and I can sync all my Korganizer agenda with Gcal without any issues. There is only one issue regarding changing start time or end time.

Could you describe how to do this?
Thanks in advance.

Instructions on my (bad) blog :-)

http://primalcortex.wordpress.com/2010/04/24/korganizer-and-google-calendar-on-kubuntu-9-10/

When I have time, I'll document how to make MS Exchange Calendar Events on Korganizer. Basically the idea is to export Exchange Calendar Events into Ical file (.ics), that is read by Akonadi and connected to Korganizer.
