kmail, disconnected imap with gmail

Fri Apr 10, 2009 12:26 pm
Hi
I configured kmail to use gmail with disconnected imap. Now I removed "All Mail" from local subscriptions but kmail keeps on downloading it every time I check emails. I find it very confusing to configure this as there is subscription and local subscription.
Additionally, when mark mails as read or move them to trash it is not synchronised with the server.
It is pretty much useless that way.
Any idea how to solve this?

Your mail in disconnected IMAP is synchronized with the server at the time you chek new mail. It is the time to make two-way synchronization between your client and your server.

So, try to synchronize mail and look on gmail.com after.

I use my own imap server from two different workstations: at home and at my work. If I read the message at home it will be delivered to my work PC marked as read.

I know that but it is not working. Synchronising folders by pressing F5 doesn't apply local changes to the server.
And I don't want to download all mails from "All Mail" cause that takes forever and this folder should be excluded.

Am I the only one who tries to use gmail with imap? Is it because of gmail?

Sounds like it is related to GMail. You may find better luck with standard IMAP.

Does "standard imap" mean not using gmail or not using disconnected imap? :)
I would like to keep a local copy of my emails in case I need to find something without internet access. If this is a problem in kmail, I guess it won't be repaired anymore cause of the migration to akonadi.

KMail will probably be ported to Akonadi for KDE 4.4
Until then bugs will be fixed in KMail itself.

Cheers,
