Hello
while haveing (by accident) installed KDE 4.3 beta 1 (4.2.88) I am now testing what works ) Well I found this description http://savago.blip.tv/file/1972911/ which shows how to sync google contact data to kontact. Does anyone may know how to add the akonadi source? I tried it via akonadi consol but there is nothing what might be it. Thanks for any hint. Michael PS I might be in an very remote location the next two weeks - I might not be able to answer ... Hope I can change the plans of my boss

The GoogleData resource is part of KDE extragear.
Currently the only way to get it is through SVN and manual building. The maintainer could probably be persuaded to do a beta release for it Cheers, _

Thanks,
a lot for the response - I will stay tuned and hope that the pakage will be avialable the next month. -- I really have to go to a very remote location and will be offline for two weeks. Do you have the contact data of the maintainer ? In case you are able to tell me today I will drop him a mail ) Michael

I am currently running KDE4.3 RC3 release 150. I still donot have akonadi google calendar/kontact sources in akonadi console.
So where should I go to download and source? BTW, PIM part in KDE 4.3 RC3 feature list shows that google calendar sync is included. Thanks, |

Guess a new version of libgcal will follown theses days Michael

The Google Resource maintainer indicated that he will be doing beta/RC source packages this weekend.
Some distributors might even pick them up for beta/RC binary packages. Cheers, _

Thanks for the info. I do not mind wait for a few days even until the KDE 4.3 official released. One more question about a feature I am waiting for long time: how about the calendar/contact sync with exchange? Or will openchange be integrated into KDE4.3? I use kde at work, so it is kinda important to me. Thanks again. |

It might even take a bit longer than that. The Google resources are not bound by the KDE release cycle, so the maintainer could release them a bit later if current testing uncovers new bugs and he needs time to fix them properly.
I am afraid not. The developer who has done most of the work on it is currently busy with other things. Moreover it kind of depends on Samba4 stuff, which has not been released yet AFAIK. We know that it is important for people in Exchange environments but it is one of the things only very few people can work on and they currently focus on the OpenChange code base itself. Cheers, _

I did follow your method to install the google resource, however calendar part does not work as the developer's video showed. My calendar event can not show up in korganizer(contact part does work). Hope someone make it work properly and share the solution. Thanks |

Hi guys, I've come upon this topic 6 months after it got started. I see now that the googledata akonadi script is fully compiled available in the repositories. I am a complete newbie to Akonadi. I installed the googledata package, selected it in akonadi and put in my username and password. I launched it, it said that it's syncing - done. Now what? I go to Kontact, I don't see any of my gMail contacts there... what do I need to do?

Unfortunately Kontact does not use Akonadi at this time, other than through the compatibility bridges, which due to bugs within them are disabled by default.
KDE 4.4 will contain a KContactManager, which will use Akonadi, and 4.5 will hopefully bring other PIM applications to Akonadi such as KMail.

Bumping this topic once more. Is it possible now with KDE 4.4.1?
(And while we're at it, possible to set up Google Calendar sync?) |

Calendars may be possible in 4.5. Your contacts will be accessible in 4.4, since Akonadi is now used.

But how do you set it up then? I tried going into the Akonadi resource configuration thing to add a resource, but there is no Google Contacts resource
(as a side note, the semantics used are really confusing. Akonadi server, PIM resources, "database driver", Nepomuk, calendar feeder, daemon... If I were new to KDE, I'd feel intimated by all of that) |
