Hi,
How do you configure Kmail to have separate inbox, sent mail, and drafts folders for each identity? I want each e-mail address to receive mail into separate folders. |

KMail > Configure KMail > Identities > (Select Identity). Spread across the tabs will be "Select.." buttons which will allow you to select different folders for Drafts, etc.
Inbox and Sent Mail are controlled by the Recieving / Sending server options.

I tried that, and I now receive e-mails into the folders that specify. However, I am unable to send any e-mails. They simply accumulate in the outbox folder. What is causing this problem?

You can change the Sent folder under Outgoing servers, where each server can have its own "Sent" folder. You can force an outgoing server for each identity.

Where would i find the "Outgoing servers" to change the sent folder? I can't find it under accounts or identities.

It should be present under Accounts. It is a separate tab, labelled "Outgoing" I think.

I could not find a tab called "Outgoing."
I went to "Settings -> Configure Kontact -> Accounts -> Sending" and I could not find any way to change the sent folder and force an outgoing server. I am running Kontact in Ubuntu v9.04. What could be the issue? How do I force an outgoing server for each identity? Also, I tried to add a new identity, but I could not send mail from it, and so I deleted the new identity. Now, whenever I try to send mail from the original identity that I created, it gives a 'Sending Failed' message and tells me that transport was invalid. The e-mail address that it shows in the message belongs to the identity that I had deleted. I do not know why it is trying to send through that e-mail address because I removed that identity completely from Kontact. How do I fix this problem? Has the e-mail address deleted identity become stuck in the system? |

To force a outgoing server, you need to change the Identity. The Sent folder may also be there, but I am sure it is also under Accounts > Sending > (Server) > Modify.

The only fields in the window that appears after clicking 'Modify' are Name and Host. If I click 'Advanced' it provides me with a number of options regarding passwords and custom hostnames. There is nothing regarding the sent-folder.

Oops. Sending folders are an identity setting, and can be found in KMail > Settings > Configure KMail > Identities.

I have tried changing the folders under 'Identity' and when I attempted to modify my identity, Kontact became unable to send any mail whatsoever.
As a result of this, I decided to start from scratch and delete that identity so that I could create a new Identity and a new Account under a different e-mail address with all the inbox and sent folders set to default. When I attempted to send mail from this new identity, I received a 'Sending Failed' message that tells me that transport was invalid through that e-mail address. The e-mail address that it lists is the e-mail address of the old Identity that I had deleted. I do not understand why this is the case because I had erased this e-mail address from every field under Identities and Accounts. This has led me to believe that the old e-mail address has somehow become stuck in the system. What is the problem, and how can I fix Kontact and send mail again? |
