I'm using KMail 4.1.4-0 on KDE 4.1.4-0 in LinuxMint 6. I want to make a backup of my KMail settings and my accumulated emails. So I copied the kmail directory into a Kingston 2GB thumbdrive. That thumb drive won't accept some of the emails. Playing around with Dolphin in that directory, I discovered that the emails the Kingston would accept were all classified by Dolphin as "plain text documents" and the ones that were not accepted by the Kingston were all classified as "email messages".
The backup is needed so I can reformat my hard drive and reorganize its partitions, but I need the emails to be backed up before I do it. I looked through forum messages relating to kmail but didn't see anything which seemed to fit. Is there a way of transferring the emails to the thumbdrive? In faith, Dave Viva Texas |

You should be able to place the files in an archive using Ark, tar, gzip, zip, etc. which you can then copy over to your thumbdrive without issues.
