I am trying to get myself to use Kontact and friends for organizing my personal schedule. I have never used any productivity suite in my life (even though I always knew I should) so everything is new to me. I am starting with integrating my email accounts with KMail.
I got KMail to synch up with my Gmail account, which was great, except that it's not recognizing my Gmail folders. I suppose I could just recreate them in KMai, but I know in the past I have gotten KMail (in KDE4) to use my Gmail folders. I have ransacked the Account options and I can't find anything that looks promising. Anyone know what I'm missing? Thanks!

Which method of integrating with KMail are you using for GMail? You need to be using IMAP. You will find your folders under "Labels".

i've got gmail (imap) setup nicely via kmail and also one other account (ie my isp one).
each account is configured to use its own smtp server and inbox/folders respectively. but is it possible, when composing a new email with my gmail profile to make it default to my gmail identity and also make any new emails i compose with my personal isp account default to my other identity? at the moment when i compose an email i have to be careful which identity i select (ie i dont want to give my full name away when using the gmail account). hope that makes sense |

You can set a default identity per folder so when you create a new mail while such afolder is selected, the folder's identity will be used.

thanks for that, good to know.
one more question....on kmail 1.12, when i've opened up a new email in my inbox and i select 'reply' how do i make it not open a new message window? ie basically when i reply i want the original email closed, and not have to have two windows open as well as the kmail client. i had this behaviour configured on my old profile but for the life of me i cant find the setting to change this thanks |

I think you will always get a composer window, because you told the application you want to compose an email.
Interesting. I never opened mails in an extra window for reading so I didn't know it autoclose the reader window when opening the composer. Maybe it is a regression. Any reason you open the email in an extra window when reading? Cheers, _

i've never liked using preview panes as i can't be bothered scrolling when reading emails with several paragraphs (especially ones with html content which tend to spill over the page). ...so usually i disable it and if i want to read an email i open it in its entirety in a new window. but when i reply, i should be able to reply within the same window....i guess this is because i'm so used to using Microsoft Outlook at work, which defaults to this behaviour. |

Right, just asking out of interest.
Since you have had this feature working properly in earlier versions, this counts as a regression. If possible it would be nice if you could report it on bugs.kde.org. Cheers, _
