Distribution lists in KMail

Sat Aug 22, 2009 4:40 pm
I have been using Opera Mail for years but, having been "converted" to Linux (OpenSuse 11.1, KDE 4.2/4.3) I am trying to migrate to Kontact/KMail. Under Opera-Mail I have a number of distribution lists. I would like to migrate them to Kontact/KMail. Is there a way to do so with a reasonable effort?
I have tried to establish the lists manually, but even THAT doesn't work: When trying to create a new distribution list, a pop-up (in German: "Zielordnerauswahl - Kontact") asks me to enter a name of a folder for the list. Unfortunately there is NO WAY to actually enter a name into the pop-up. So, I cannot proceed. Any solution or is this a bug?

In the addressbook screens have you tried File > Import > Import Opera Addressbook ? I imagine that would bring in your distribution lists as well as individual addresses.

For a new distribution list to be created manually, when you get the popup it should have something like 'New Distribution List' in the Name field. Sweep the mouse across it to highlight it, and you should then be able to type in your new list name (you can delete the highlighted text, or just starting to type normally deletes it for you).

Thanks. I can enter a new name for the distribution list. However, Kontact then asks me to specify a folder name for the distribution list. It is at THAT point that I cannot enter the name. So I am stuck. To me it looks like a bug. How such a situation can make it into a distro puzzles me greatly...

What version of KMail is this? Is it from a regular repository, or from one of the unstable/experimental ones?

This is not the normal behaviour for KMail pre-Akonadi, and as far as I know the distros are not yet releasing Akonadi-capable KMail. I've been using KMail for 7 years and never seen this problem, so it may be necessary to ask the OpenSuse guys what's going on.
