Just now I saw the contents of the file .config/akonadi/akonadiconnectionrc and it reads as-
Is this fine, or something wrong? Also, I see the following files/dirs in $KDEDIR/share/akonadi- akonadiserver.socket db_data db_misc file_db_data mysql.conf Do I have to copy some of these files to ~/.local/share/akonadi ? I randomly tried copying them there, but doesn't seem to work, everytime it just complains

Please remove the entire ~/.local/share/akonadi folder and ~/.config/akonadi/akonadiserverrc
After that, start Akonadi ( it will likely complain about the mysql database missing ) then stop it and run the mysql_install_db command.

The content of your akonadiconnectionrc file is quite different to mine...
Please change the "UnixPath" entry to "/home/hunny/.local/share/akonadi/akonadiserver.socket"

Hmm, I think Akonadi starts correctly now, guessing because I can now start KMail, Kontact etc, though it always opens kres-migrator which stays there all the time saying "Starting Akonadi Server", weird, because akonadictl status says its already running. Is it normal?
Also, I tried to change the "UnixPath" entry to "/home/hunny/.local/share/akonadi/akonadiserver.socket" but whenever I start Akonadi, it resets to /home/hunny/kde/share/akonadi/akonadiserver.socket . Further, /home/hunny/.local/share/akonadi/akonadiserver.socket does not exist. |

I gather all your other settings are stored in /home/hunny/kde/share/akonadi/ as well? ( such as the MySQL database )

In your case, the commands will need to be adjusted, as the location of the preference directory ~/.local is different on your system.

It gives the following output-
The file at /home/hunny/kde/share/akonadi/db_data/mysql.err contains http://pastebin.com/V4THgh2b . |

It appears that Akonadi may have been running. Please run "akonadictl stop" then the above command again, and finally "akonadictl start" if it encounters no errors.

No, the problem is still there with akonadi stopped. As a matter of fact, its not even starting now
![]() Another friend of mine who has trunk build on same distro as mine is having exactly the same problem. I suspect it maybe that the distro installed akonadi maybe conflicting. Is this possible? |

I also have exactly the problem above. Right now I suspect it might be a problem with mysql. The problem appeared when trying to upgrade from Karmic to Lucid.
Without akonadi KDE is unusable since it does affect other programs like digikam too. ![]() I have created a new user to avoid problems from a previous version but this "new" user cannot start akanodi as well. (All other users on this computer are having the same problem) |

As a workaround to these problems, I use the system wide instance of MySQL for Akonadi, which solves all issues regarding MySQL functionality ( and reduces memory usage if you need it for other things, which I do ).

@bcooksley
How to configure to achieve that? @annew I'm afraid no, as mine is a clean install, not an upgrade. |
