problem with gmail and kmail 1.11.4

Tue Sep 08, 2009 4:46 am
Kmail will work with gmail imap but no matter what I do I can't get it to download gmail messages via pop. I am so disgusted with kde's path and the continuous degradation of functionality I'm seriously considering switching back to windows. Konqueror can't paste into folders without opening them and can't select all. I can't believe this isn't still a beta. IT SHOULD BE!!! The current version should be 4.0.3 rather than 4.3 (or in the case of the version installed here 4.0.2.4 rather than 4.2.4).

What type of error message is given for the POP download failing? Have you followed Google's instructions correctly with regards to port, security type, username, etc?

It's all set up correctly and worked until recently. I don't know what's going on. There's no error message. It acts as if it's downloading messages and displays progress % complete but when it finishes nothing has been downloaded.

Is there anything in /var/log/maillog?

Can you check to see if anything is written to ~/.xsession-errors from kio_pop3?

It looks like the problem is solved. I went to my gmail inbox and found that my messages were gone. I have gmail set up to delete the server copy after downloading to my computer so they were successfully transferred but the messages weren't in the maildir they were directed to. Fortunately when I set up the spam filters I set the destination of known spam as a spam directory I had created. That's where I found the missing messages. For some unknown reason all of the messages from my gmail account were being marked as spam. I deleted the spam filters and ran the anti-spam wizard to create new filters and the gmail messages are now being directed to their proper folder.

The strange thing is after attempting download from gmail I checked the spam folder and it was empty. Today, when I checked it the messages were there.

There appears to be an issue with the KMail email filters, which another user has also encountered.
