When Kmail logs into my work's exchange POP server I get the following error.

The server failed the authenticity check (pop.xxxx.com).

The certificate authority's certificate is invalid
The root certificate authority's certificate is not trusted for this purpose
The certificate cannot be verified for internal reasons

When I click continue I get

Would you like to accept this certificate forever without being prompted"

buttons "forever" "current Sessions only"

I click "forever" and it polls mail. But next time it polls mail the same error comes up again.

I guess I should have put some system information.

OS - Kubuntu 9.04
KDE 4.2.2
KMail 1.11.2

The certificate is self signed on the server. And both Evolution and Thunderbird will remember that I want it to accept the cert.

Unfortunately this is one of the primary issues with KDE 4, and has not yet been resolved. It is due to an issue in KDELibs.

So is it safe to assume that there is a defect opened on this then?

Thanks for your reply.

Yes, I believe many bugs have been filed about this.
