Is there a way to have use a remote addressbook and/or a remote calendar in Kontact, for which the password is saved in kdewallet, without having the "KDE Daemon" asking me to open the wallet upon every login and logout?
Here's my setup : In Kontact, I add a new "Network" address book, saved on a webdav server. When Kontact asks for the password, I check the "Remember password" box, which saves the password in the kdewallet. I then log out and log back in. First thing after logging in, I get a dialog saying : The application 'KDE Daemon' has requested to open the wallet 'kdewallet'. If I uncheck the remote addressbook in Kontact, then KDE Daemon no longer asks for the wallet upon login. What I would like is for Kontact to ask for the kdewallet password when I launch it, not have KDE preemptively ask me for the password in case I might want to use the address book eventually. Is that possible? |

Certainly. I use a remote korganizer calendar and also a local IMAP server, so I use this all the time. You need to open kwalletmanager, then Settings > Configure Wallet and on the first tab uncheck the things that are closing it. If, like me, you prefer it to be open all the time you are working, that's perfectly possible, but remember that you are responsible then for closing it if you go away from the keyboard

That unfortunately does not accomplish what I am looking for. Your solution will keep the wallet from closing once it is opened. However, it still doesn't stop the 'KDE Daemon' from wanting to open the wallet upon login, even if there are not a single application running that requires access to the wallet.
What I want to do is open the wallet when there is an application that actually requires access to the wallet, not open it right after login when Kontact isn't running. |

Are you sure that nothing uses it from login? If you are connecting to a networked drive, for instance, you probably need to log in to that.

Could maybe KWalletManager cause your problem? If it is started, there should be a wallet symbol in the systemtray.

If you have something such as the Contacts runner enabled, then you need to disable it.
