I'm using KMail with an IMAP account and I've always wondered how to simply open a message without it having to download the attachment in it first. This way I can read the message and then only download the attachment if I feel it's necessary.
I have searched through the settings and the only one I can find is Settings -> Accounts -> Receiving -> Advanced -> Uncheck the "Load attachments on demand" however it does not seem to do anything.

I have exactly the same problem. I tried changing the Load attachments on demand, but didnt work. Even restarted the application after changing the setting.
Ill see if there is bug filed, and if not, ill submit one. EDIT: Bug filed at: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour ... bug/541797

It is quite annoying - it happens when deleting messages too. Someone tell me why I have to download the attachment to delete it?

This is clearly a bug rather than a feature, so we will have to wait for them to fix it
![]() In the mean time it would be cool to find a work around.

I think I have a work around for this, can you confirm if it applies to you as well?
If you enable the preview pane, then you see the message without needing the attachments downloaded. Some more news on the bug, I had to re-file it to the KDE bug tracking system. Ive put it under another similar bug: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=213432
