Giving up on Kontact?

Sun Jan 17, 2010 9:04 pm
Seems like a nice package (4.3) but after setting it up and posting some calendar items it would not load after about the 3rd reboot. Tried reinstalling - no luck. Deleted the .kde folder and it would start. Ran with it for a few days and it failed again.

Tried installing the KDE Desktop ful installation - still no luck. Did a cold install of Ubuntu desktop and reinstalled. It ran for a while and then it locked up when opening an email. Rebooted and tried starting it up. Nothing. When I try to start it again it says it is running but I cannot switch to it.

It seems totally unreliable - Anybody know of a decent PIM full featured that runs on Linux? Chandler is good but no contacts feature.

The best PIM I have ever used is Netmanage Ecco. Utterly reliable, easy to sync - it would be great on Linux.

Since very many of us use Kontact without these problems it's clear that there is nothing wrong with the application. The fact that you talked about doing a re-install of the Ubuntu desktop made me wonder, though. I know that the latest KUbuntu installed with some serious missing dependencies, although I thought that updates had solved that problem.

I can only repeat, Kontact is fine, so you need to look elsewhere for the cause of your problems.
