Ok, please bear with me as I only moved to 4.4 about a week back and am just getting to grips with things.
Shortly after moving to 4.4. I realised that KMail was seeing a more current version of my contacts than I was in my address book (std.vcf). After I added 'Personal Contacts' in akonadi resources my address book looked a lot better (thanks again annew for helping me find the akonaditray icon!) If I switch off the std.vcf resource in akonadi will this be left untouched on my system unless I choose to delete it?

No, don't do that. Akonadi can make use of the information there. Keep an eye on http://userbase.kde.org/Akonadi. Ingo Kloecker is going to write a clearer explanation of where we've got to, and it should appear in the next few days.
Meanwhile, if you or any other reader found that nepomuk was making your system feel like glue - don't give up! I've just updated to 4.4.1 and can't believe the difference. Kontact is a joy again!

The new joyous Kontact has eaten my memory. In order to see my IMAP address book, I added an IMAP and Kolab resource.
Now, I can see what's left of my address book, but the computer only has 2GB of ram and it gets eaten as soon as Akonadi starts. ("Om, nom, nom"), about 400megs of swap also are devoured. No address book for me. I erased the IMAP resource and restarted akonadi. Now memory usage is back to normal again. Wasn't this also developed for mobile phones? Is there actually a mobile that has 4GB ram? |

It is actually running ok on my laptop with 2GB RAM. The worst offender on my laptop is by far Firefox.
I have seen some comments on the bug about the addressbook, and it looks like all the problems have been fixed (the omitted content). Does anyone know when we have a chance to see it out? Any possibility of getting it in 4.4.2?

Alvin - if you haven't updated to 4.4.1, please do as soon as possible. You will find a big improvement. (Also, if Strigi is enabled, disable it for now.) FWIW I only have 2GB on this laptop, and it's absolutely fine, but it wasn't before 4.4.1.
