kubuntu 9.10 i386, kde 4.3.2, kontact 4.3.2. Basket notepads, http://basket.kde.org at one time showed up in the sidebar of kontact, apparently, but no longer does. There is a fix mentioned at http://basket.kde.org/news.php#the-2008-02-08, referencing to update /usr/share/services/kontact/basket.desktop, however the kontact directory does not exist. Nor does x-kde-kontactpluginversion grep out of any file in this directory.
How might I apply this fix to today's kde / kontact environment? Thanks. |

I'm speaking entirely from memory, since I can't find the source that I read a good while ago, so this may not be accurate. I think basket was dropped because it had been unmaintained for some time. I seem to recall that it was said to be possible to import basket files into KJots, so perhaps a google on those lines might help you.

Thanks, but I don't understand - what is the relationship between basket being dropped and the lack of the /usr/share/services/kontact/ directory? Was this a standard directory pre-KDE 4, or something? |

I've just read on opendesktop.org that Basket for KDE SC 4.x is in SVN. It was said that already it works quite well.

Interesting. Thanks very kindly for pointing that out. Went looking for the article. Found http://opendesktop.org/content/show.php ... tent=10020, but I don't see the 4.x reference you mention. Do you have a link by any chance? Unfortunately, it's looking like Basket is going to be called too 'graphical'. Looking for something more like ShadowPlan (Codejedi) but up to date. Simple outliner with the ability to tag lines with dates, including linking to/from one's PIM. (Thus the original kontact / basket integration question.) One pane, including ability to edit 'inline'. If anyone knows of such, please speak up. [Please note the one pane, instead of 3 pane type outliners.] |

http://opendesktop.org/groups/?id=1 - the discussion is half-way down page 4. I don't know anything about the application you mention, but is it not possible to do most of this in Notebooks, within Kontact? I haven't tried tagging at all, but it looks fairly capable. Whether it's capable for your usecase, though, I don't know.
