Are there any alternatives to Kmail?
I need a program that reads, or imports, all my messages stored in maildir format, supports both imap and pop3 and that don't use akonadi. On the other side, if anybody knows a method to upload all my mail to google that works in linux, like google-email-uploder for windows, I will be grateful.

If you're looking for something Qt-based, there is none. KMail and Mailody are the only two functional mail clients, but they both need Akonadi. (Mailody actually uses it.) Thunderbird does not support maildir, Claws Mail has a maildir plugin, but it's slow and unmaintained (last time I checked). My solution (actually I had it before the "problem") was to set up an IMAP server which would let me browse my maildirs with any mail client that supports IMAP, and fetchmail and msmtp to fetch and send my mail. Now, I just use mutt.

Hmm. Can't you use KMail to upload all mails to Google's IMAP server instead? That is if you are not running KMail from SVN trunk since this version is mostly ported to Akonadi already (unlike the version which comes with KDE SC 4.4 which uses Akonadi for address book access or the version which comes with KDE SC 4.3 or earlier which does not use Akonadi at all). Another alternative could be Evolution or an application using Tinymail (which I think has support for maildir, POP3 and IMAP). Or KMail from the PIM enterprise branch (stable one based on 3.5, experimental based on 4.x) Cheers, _

I feel your pain. I was looking, too, until I decided to just dive in and move on to Thunderbird. Yes, it is not maildir, and yes it was a pain to manually move all my kmail and addresses to T-bird. But I did it, and T-bird works well. I use Lightning for my calendar and tasks. I kept knotes for quick "sticky" notes. All in all I've found that I don't miss kontact, akonadi, nepomuk, and the rest of that mess -- AT ALL!! ![]() My system is much happier, also.
I feel more like I do now than I did when I got here.

I know this thread is older, but I found it doing a recent search regarding the same topic. Thunderbird was already mentioned, but Claws Mail might be another. If you have a lot of time
