Hi all,

I have kde4.4 installed on Arch Linux and I am using kontact for mail, contacts and the rest. Since installing kontact I cannot add an address book or a contact.

If I try to add an address book I get this error....

"Could not add address book: Agent instance creation timed out."

I would appreciate any help in solving this problem.

Can you confirm that Akonadi is running?

Code: Select all
akonadictl status

Hm, just googled your error message and found your post in the arch forum :p

So what is the current status of your address book? You still in .kde4/share/apps/kabc or already in .local/share/contacts?

Way I would proceed:

1) make backups
2) close kontact
3) delete all files in .local/share/contacts
4) open kabc as a standalone - this should convert automagically all your entries from .kde4/share/apps/kabc to akonadi in .local/share/contacts
5) close kabc, open kontact and hope for the best...

Hi toad,

I looked in ~/.local/share/contacts and it was empty.

I then checked the permissions, they were diesel1/diesel1 so I changed them to diesel1/users.

When I started kaddressbook it allowed me to create a new address book!

This address book is also accessible in Kontact now.

Thanks for the pointers toad,
