Can Akonadi and IMAP sync to local?

Wed Mar 03, 2010 10:31 pm
Hello,
I'm using KDE 4.4 and Kubuntu 10.04 Alpha.

I'm trying out the Kmail / Groupware via IMAP feature. It seems to work well, but can I have it sync the data of the IMAP folder locally too, so that my addresses and such are available when not connected to the internet?

Similar in nature, I'm using Akonadi and Google Contacts. It works, but can it sync locally for the same reason?

Any input is appreciated.

Akonadi resources should safely go "offline" and allow you to use the data which is already cached in the Akonadi server when no internet connection is available ( or the source is otherwise unreachable )

I'll ask the Developers if anything special needs to be done with KDE 4.4.

Unfortunately I haven't been able to get a response from the developers yet. You may wish to try asking on the KDE PIM user support list: kde-pim-users@kde.org

Hello,
I've installed and been using Kubuntu 10.04 here for a while. It seems that the Akonadi server does indeed cache things locally. My Google Contacts, Google Calendar, Imap Contacts, are all available on my local machine, even if I'm not connected to the internet. I am not sure when synchronization is taking place, but I can use the Akonadi-Console to manually sync an item.

Perhaps this is not the correct place, but it seems that there are a lot of steps required to setup any of these items above.

Thank you,

Correct, Akonadi's design requires it to cache data. Resources are responsible for syncing this data with their sources, including local files on disk, network servers, etc.

Thus any problems with data not being synced is a bug in the resource, and should be filed as such at bugs.kde.org.
