The annoying akonadi messages does not show anymore, using kde 4.5.4, I can not remember at what version they dissapeared. But they did! So updating KDE should solve your problem :-)

Btw, you could try to start akonadi by running "akonadictl start" from a script in ˝/.kde4/env (must be postfixed .sh iirc) - that would start it before the rest of kde. I can not guarantee that that is possible though, since I have not tried it.

~/.kde4/env is too early in the process, as D-Bus will not have started yet. As such, Akonadi may not start properly. Akonadi also starts Nepomuk if it needs it, which uses KDE infrastructure in parts, which may present additional startup issues. I recommend using a script in ~/.kde4/Autostart instead.

Fixed this by removing akonadi, the address book, and fetching the user accounts from kmail, from the system.

Enabled fetchmail for POP3, maildrop for easy filtering + dovecot IMAP server.

Configured Kmail to use the localhost IMAP server.

Works nicely with no more akonadi rubbish :-)

Rich.
