Blanket statements like "all config files" are not useful. Paths and file names are the only reliable way of exchanging information here. But back on track, we have identified that you have an entire folder missing which is directly related to your problem. How exactly have you used that information? If you haven't, here is what I'd try in the following order: a) simply create the missing folder and cross my fingers b) purge the system of anything akregator, use locate to find even the last files, especially in ~ and reinstall. Let us know how you get on.

well i'm sorry that i figured that all meant all, as in, before even coming here i did exactly what you said in b). as i think i said before in addition to that i even uninstalled akregator before doing that (and then did what you said in b) and then reinstalled akregator all to no avail which i why i came here with the problem). i created the missing folder, but unfortunately that affected nothing. (folder is still empty and problem still persists). |

This seems likely to be a incompatible plugin which isn't being loaded. Can you please post the output of "akregator" when run from Konsole?

Oops, missed that when looking back.
Can you please check that /usr/share/kde4/servicetypes/akregator_plugin.desktop exists?

There should be no reason in this case why the plugin isn't loaded. it seems as if plugin support has simply been disabled...
Unfortunately I do not know why this occurs. If you are using KDE 4.4, then please report a bug to the KDE repository maintainers, otherwise please try upgrading to KDE 4.4.

i think i will have to file a bug, but as i said, i am on 4.4.1 but this has been happening for quite a while. |

Interestingly I can't reproduce on Trunk... so this may be solved in 4.1.2. Either way, please file a bug as only the developer of the application will likely be able to troubleshoot further.

you keep referring to outdated versions of kde. i am on 4.4.1 and the next version will be 4.4.2 not 4.1.2... |

Oops. Sorry about that, correct it is a typo. It should read 4.4.2...

bcooksley does not _keep on_ referring to outdated versions. Any half witted moron would know that a 1 and 4 lie close together on the numpad and that this is most probably a typo. As such, if one really were so anal as to take exception, one would kindly point it out and ask for it to be changed. This is called politeness.

UPDATE:
believe it or not, the solution to this was very simple: run kbuildsyscoca |
