Akonadi only starts manually

Wed Mar 10, 2010 11:12 am
Hi, I am using KDE 4.3.4 on Debian Squeeze.

Originally I had some problems with Akonadi starting at all but having resolved them, starting it manually from the System Settings seems to work.

However, if I restart the computer and then look in System Settings > Aconadi Configuration I see that Akonadi did not start. Clicking on 'Details' gives me these errors:

...
Konadi control process not registered at D-Bus
Konadi control process not registered at D-Bus
...
No Resource agents found.
...
Previous Akonadi server error log found.
...

Here is the contents of the log:

Code: Select all
Control process died, committing suicide!
D-Bus session bus went down - quitting

The strange thing is that going to Akonadi Server Configuration and starting it from there manually seems to work.

Any help would be appreciated.

The automatic start of akonadi has been a problem for most distros until very recently. For 4.3.4 I'd definitely recommend installing the Akonadi tray icon and starting it from there before launching kontact. For the error message you're seeing, check out the various entries on http://userbase.kde.org/Akonadi

OK, thanks for the reply. I'll wait till Akonadi is a bit more stable before I try it again I think.

As an aside, it would be a very good thing if KDE and Gnome could get together and agree on a standard for this kind of thing. I use both desktops and transferring calendar and address book files is not to bad (easier on KDE thanks to being able to store them as files) but databases... surely that's going to make my life harder?

If I've missed something let me know
