I'd like to use thunderbird as the email client for korganizer. Does any one know how to do this? Thanks.

You can set your default mail client in System Settings > Default Applications.

In spite of setting thunderbird as my default mail client I am still unable to use it in korganizer.

Any other ideas? Thanks.

Note that Thunderbird will not be displayed in an integrated manner in Kontact like KMail is, because that requires that the application provide a Kontact plugin.

How does KOrganizer not facilitate integration with Thunderbird?

While I can open iCal attachments in thunderbird with korganizer, when I accept or decline meeting invites korganizer does not send out the respective response through thunderbird.

Also, currently I have to manually open each iCal attachment in thunderbird and add it to korganizer. I don't know if it is currently possible, but I'd like for korganizer to automatically pull the iCals into the current calendar.

Automatically pulling iCal's into the current calendar would require Thunderbird to "push" them to KOrganizer. As far as I know, Thunderbird is not capable of doing this.

Sending out the respective response is possibly a bug in KOrganizer, although you should check to make sure that it is enabled in KOrganizer settings first.

Note that the best integration will be achieved when using KOrganizer with KMail.

I've checked KOrganizer settings (Settings > Configure KOrganizer) and "Use Groupware Communication" is selected with kmail as the client (even though thunderbird is the system default mail client). Is this a settings issue or a bug?

I use thunderbird because I have a dual boot system and I can keep a single mail "profile" and use it from both windows & linux.

I like KOrganizer and for integration purposes I'm fine with using KMail as long as I can use the same mail profile (mboxes) used in thunderbird, so I don't have to duplicate mail files for each OS. Do you know if this is possible?

Perfectly possible for KMail to use mbox format - but be aware that it's inefficient if your mailboxes get large. I've never tried sharing mail folders, though, so I can't comment on the safety of it. Obviously things like flags set in KMail won't show in T'bird. You'll need to set KMail to create new folders in MBox format - that's on the Misc. page of KMail's settings.

If I were you, I'd to a bit of testing on a folder created for the purpose, containing just a few sample emails taken from other folders. Try reading and writing to that folder alone in both applications and see if there are any problems. Don't touch the other folders until you are sure.

I was under the impression that Thunderbird/Mozilla Mail uses a customized version of mbox, so I'd be surprised if Kmail could read its mailboxes.

Proudly dual-booting openSUSE 11.1 with KDE 4.3 and Windows Vista on a Toshiba A205-S4577 since July 2007.
