hi there,
I have a very basic problem with kmail, which is I guess, just a problem of understanding kmail concepts and how to use them. scenario: I have several email accounts for different kind of contacts. one for business, another for private, another for... you get the idea. this is not a peculiar one. now, when I receive an email via lets say xyz@gmail , I'd like to send the reply also with xyz@gmail as sender and the smtp.gmail.com mailserver. however, and this is the problem, kmail does not automatically offer this, but gives me am standard email xyz@web as sender and even worse the smtp.web.de as mailserver. So when I change the sender email to xyz@gmail I still have the smtp.web.de which consequently does not accept emails with sender address xyz@web so I have to change that manually also. I think the prob is clear: I want that when I receive an email over the xyz@gmail account I want it automatically to send it using this account and vice versa. Where and how can I configure that properly? Help didn't help, unfortunately. best regards, incredion |

The solution is simple or impossible, depending on how you store your mail If you use folders for the different kinds of mail, that's easy. Right click on the folder and pull up the Properties. There you will be able to change the identity (account, in your terms) to be used for all outgoing messages from that folder. Starting a new message while you are in that folder will also use that identity. If you don't separate the different kinds of mail, I don't think it can be done.

That is great - I didn't know about folders and identities!
I've been doing the following: 1) write new mail 2) in the new mail go to View - Mail Transport and click it 3) now you can chose which mail transport you want individually for each message without having to repeat step 2) HTH

hi anne,
as i am using seperate folders for each of my impersonations, your hint is very useful for me! thanks a lot! additional question: if i get you right, kmail is not able to reply to an email using the same email (and smtp server that belongs to that account) it was received by? this is poor! even outlook can do that! |

I'm sorry, I don't understand the question. Could you define it a bit more?

incredion,
please do not rubbish software if you haven't bothered to find out about its capabilities. From your description in your first post I gather that my reply answers all your questions and satisfies your needs - yet you haven't even acknowledged my reply. As the saying goes - I'm outta here...

@incredion: You may wish to check the settings under Identities, which can specify that a certain outbound server is used for a mail sent with that from address.
