Hey.
I'm using Kontact on Kubuntu 10.04 (Beta2). The problem is that every time I click a link, so that it opens in an external browser, the link that it opens is a cached version of the website at the URL I am opening, rather than the URL itself. The URI it opens reads something like: - file:///var/tmp/kdecache-atli/krun/13279.0.886290-website-title This applies to both the Mail (Kmail) and Feeds (Akregator) part of the application. I've gone through all the settings and nothing I do seems to have any effect. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, - Atli |

Ok, so I found a workaround that allows me to open links correctly in Firefox.
For the Feed, I set the External Browser command int the Browser tab of the Akregator configuration to: firefox %u The Kmail config doesn't seem to have anything like that, and it just uses the system default browser. So, to get Kmail working I set the default system browser to the same as above. This, however, does not work correctly; it opens two tabs in a new window, rather than a new tab in the currently open window. To fix that problem, I open one link from Kmail, which triggers the unwanted behavior. Then I re-configure the system default and remove the %u. After that Kmail also works correctly. I'm still hoping somebody knows how to simply turn of the caching thing. |

This is because KDE is not aware that Firefox has support for non-local data, which is caused by its file association.
Open System Settings > Advanced > File Assocations, find "text/html", select Firefox. Edit it and make sure the command to run is "firefox %u" or "firefox %U" and not "firefox %f" or something similar.

Ahh ok, I see.
Thanks, that did it. It's odd, though, because this wasn't specific to just Firefox. This happened in all the browsers I had installed (Fx, Chrome, Konqueror, Opera), but once I updated Fx, the others were all fixed in the process. But then again, I may well have messed it up myself in the first place. I can't resist messing with every config window I come across ![]() Thanks again! |
