I've been using korganizer for years with no problems. However, today, I am getting the message "Unable to lock item for mocification....." when I try to move an appointment.
Also if I try to add a new event ("abcd", for example) I get the message Unable to save Event "abcd". I'm not aware of changing anything since yesterday. I shut everything down & rebooted in case there were 'locks' on something. Also, I see no locks in "/var/lock" I also tried saving and reloading my koffice ".ics" file Any idea of what might be going on? |

Please ensure that all files under ~/.kde* are writable by your user, and no other instance of KOrganizer or Kontact are running.

Thanks for the suggestions.
I looked through most of the sub-directories and all files were owned by me and had r/W permission (most execute permission also). I had rebooted several times, so am pretty sure no instances of KOrganizer or Kontact running. In going through the sub-directories I came across one called 'lock': '.kde/share/apps/kabc/lock'. There I found four files with a date and time stemming from the time I began to have problems. Just for something to try, I changed those four filenames by appending a '.xxx' to them. Now everything seems to be working OK! _home_jdoutt_.kde_share_apps_kabc_std.vcfXb4Z0CO7.xxx _home_jdoutt_.kde_share_apps_kabc_std.vcf.lock.xxx _home_jdoutt_.kde_share_apps_korganizer_jad_calendar.icsrXjFj94Q.xxx _home_jdoutt_.kde_share_apps_korganizer_jad_calendar.ics.lock.xxx Thanks so much for your help ... I was VERY frustrated and worried since I now DEPEND on Korganizer for all my appointments ![]() jim PS: If changing any of those four files was inappropriate, I'd appreciate feedback so I can restore the original filename(s). |

Yes, they look very much like lockfiles left behind after a crash. Now you've proved that they are the cause of the problem, you should be perfectly safe to delete them.
