Akonadi loses .vcard addressbooks.

Sat Jun 19, 2010 2:40 am
Hello,
We are using Kubuntu, and KDE 4.3. My wife has four different .vcard files that are setup as a traditional sources, and seem to be showing in akonadi as well.
The problem is that sometimes when accessing the address books, the data appears to not be there. Using the AkonadiTray utility to restart Akonadi seems to fix the problem, but it is annoying.
Is Akonadi shutting down? Perhaps it is not being called when the Kaddressbook is started? Is there an error log I can review?

Any help would be appreciated.

I guess the first thing to try is manually starting Akonadi before opening KAddressBook.

Other than that, a version update should be done, if possible. Version 4.3 is quite old and there have been a lot of changes since then.

I would recommend using the VCard file resource instead of the "traditional" variant.
The latter is a compatibility thingy and has to go through unnecessary levels of indirections, making it slower and more error prone.

Thanks to both of you. I'll see if I can upgrade Akonadi, and double check to use the VCard resource. She has been using separate files for each address book ever since KAddressbook lost the ability to create lists of people within the book. I understand that functionality will come back eventually, but for now, this is a way to keep them segregated.

Ok,
I set the individual files up using the Vcard resource, and it still loses the connection sometimes. Then, I added akonadi to kaddressbook, now they are essentially available two ways I guess. Still, they will become lost from time to time. The solution is to restart akonadi using the akonadi tray.
The version is -
Source: akonadi
Version: 1.3.1-0ubuntu3

Any thoughts?
