In current KMail the Mailing List Management is accessible via the Folder menu. So, actually it is a property of the folder.
Why not add the mailing list management to the folder properties dialog? (right click on folder -> Properties). Of course it could still be accessible via the Folder menu. Use case: When I subscribe to a new list I change the sender identity of the folder, disable act on new mails and assign a list to the folder. With my proposal everything would be in one place, the folder properties. What do you think? Florian |

I have long argued for that change, but no doubt the developers have good reason for not making it. No doubt the new KMail will have lots of changes and this may be one of them. We can only wait and see.

Ok, I see..
another GUI change I would make is to remove the Expire from the context menu (how often do you actually change this setting?) and also move it to the folder properties. You talked about a new KMail? What I've heard to far is that it just changed backends to akonadi and that's more or less all. Do you have any further information about the others changes planned? |

I disagree about the Expire location. To me the Folders menu should have settings that are common to all folders, and each folder's context menu should have the settings that are relevant to that folder only.
It is true that KMail2 will use Akonadi, but it's not simply that. KMail is one of the very old applications, with spaghetti code that has built up over 10 years. The original authors are no longer around and frankly no-one really deeply understands it. There are many reported bugs for which the cause in the code can't be found, due to this circumstance. About four years ago a team began work to completely re-write KMail. It has been long, pains-taking work, as it is seen as the base for the foreseeable future of KMail. The last year or so has been almost entirely taken up, as far as I can see, in making sure that no data-risking bugs remain and that a decent migration plan is in place. It is expected that this new KMail will be released in a few weeks - BUT - and this is very important - the developers are recommending to packagers that their distro should ship both versions, with firm and fair warning that the new one should be used by those who like to test things out. You may be interested to see http://blip.tv/file/3749220 - but remember my warning ![]()

Removing mailinglist actions from the context menu itself was one of th changes suggsted by usability experts.
Maybe moving it to the properties dialog wasn't one of the options the studied, sounds like a good solution to me, though. Maybe file a wish request on bugs.kde.org or first discuss it in the brainstorm section. Cheers, _
