I keep seeing this mantra repeated as if to say it's everybody's fault but the developers that broken software's been released for public use. The distros have to ship thousands of different packages; they'd never be able to keep up unless they could make what should be a reasonable assumption that releases from major projects like KDE have been properly tested and actually work. But then, maybe it's we users who are at fault, because we should jump through hoops to find old versions of RELEASED PACKAGES just so we can use what should be (and was) the basic functionality that ought to exist in any email program. Let's cut the ****. If the most recent version of KDEPIM isn't suitable for public use (and I think we all know from this thread that it isn't), it should never have been released so the distros would end up packaging it for we users. This whole débâcle just makes the KDE team look like an arrogant bunch whose view is "we'll release any non-functioning rubbish we feel like; it's everybody else's fault if someone actually ends up using it." Very much like the arrogance that said we had to have that pointless "cashew" on our desktops whether or not we could find a use for it. No doubt I'll be criticised for being "demotivating", but frankly the way KDE has gone has demotivated me and many other people who have been its advocates for many years from using it. I never thought I'd say this, but I may even look into installing Gnome instead. |

Folk:
I just finshed reading this thread entirley and realized: - The people in M$ will have a lot of fun reading this thread. - Or, possibly we have a M$ mole planted amongst the KDE developers. Sad, indeed! ![]() |
