The current situation
As you all may know, the recent 4.5 release will not include the KDE PIM module. This was due to a series of reasons:
The large rewriting and refactoring necessary to update the applications and port them properly to the Akonadi framework required more testing and adjustments than expected: at least an additional month past the 4.5 release. Thus, the KDE PIM module was excluded from release. This does not mean that it will have to wait till 4.6. The KDE PIM team has decided to publish regular betas and RCs during the 4.5 release cycle, ensuring a final and stable release before 4.6.0 in January. A first technical preview was released at the beginning of July and a second one will coincide with the 4.5 release on August 4th. Further ones will be made as needed. References
*The schedule will likely be adjusted after the second snapshot release on Aug 4th.

Update on: "The current situation" ?
I am using PIM 4.5beta3 for (in my feeling) quite a long time without getting new betas/RCs and I cannot find any news around. Were there new comings I possibly missed using Kubuntus ppa? Are there updated release plans, as final should be release with 4.5.1, now 4.5.3 is in the wild? (Kontact and Amarok are my most regularly used KDE apps) thx in advance for some news. |

The PIM developers are still continuing to work on it I believe.
