Hello
![]() How do you send your mails with different senders in KMail : 1.13.5 ? (account x or y) in a new message the Send drop down menu gives me 2 options, but mails are always sent with the default account . ... after a while searching I had to rename the smtp part the same than the identity , is there a better implementation : - identity (name + mail), - special transport option chosen, - then smtp the same exact name as the mail of the identity these 3 steps look a bit complicated : is there a way that adding 2 accounts creates an option to be able to change which account the mail is sent from ? and this still does not work : mails are always sent with the default account . How do you do this ? Thanks ![]()

Create a new identity that is a clone of the one that is satisfactory in every way except the smtp method. Then set your Special Transport option to use the second transport.
Filter all mail that should use that method into one or more folders, for which you have set the new identity as the default (that's a right-click on the folder -> Folder Properties). Now all mail that you send from that folder will use the new identity which will look identical to the original identity to the receiver but will in fact use the second transport option.

Hello
![]() i don't understand for i used the way you described above to create the 2d identity. i had not chosen the special transport 1st ( x, use x account), but then i did. In smtp i used a nickname for the name, and then changed it for the email of the account, is the email mandatory ?

If you make sure you are in the folder that is configured to use that transport when you start a new message, it should automatically pick up the new identity, and since this identity is configured to use the special transport you shouldn't have to do anything else.

Hello
![]() I understand the way you're explaining and i'll try this is there 's no other way, but isn't there a way to choose a special transport with only one incoming box ? This is what i usually have and do but i can't remember how i did last time, seems like the soft has changed maybe.

It's the identity that gets associated with any folder, Inbox or subfolder, so I can't see any way of having two identities associated. Of course you can display the mail transport in your compose window, and change it there, but I think you already tried that. I don't recall it ever being different, though.

This is what i usually use, there used to be a menu in the top right corner of the compose window. It seems this menu is not anymore (?) So i therefore use the Send drop down menu, but it does not work ![]()

I don't recall any such, so I checked my server which runs CentOS, and therefore KDE 3.5. Apart from theme and icons it looks just about identical to this laptop's compose window, so I've no suggestions there I'm afraid.
Now that does surprise me, because it does work here - I use it occasionally when I forget to use appropriate folders for launching messages. I can only think of two possibilities, unlikely as they seem. Either KMail isn't aware of or can't use your second mail transport, or that something somewhere is overruling or blocking it. If you had a mistake in the second account's smtp setup I would have expected it to go to your outbox them stay there with an error report so that doesn't seem a likely culprit. I can't think of anything that might be blocking it. If you would care to send me off-line (to annew at kde dot org) ~/.kde/share/config/kmailrc, ~/.kde/share/config/mailtransports, ~/.kde/share/config/emaildefaults and ~/.kde/share/config/emailidentities I will compare them with mine and let you know if I can see any possible culprits.

![]() here's what i did : - create subfolder in Inbox for Fabrice , then right clicked and changed the identity : not using default anymore but Fabrice - set up a filter on the sender so that i have all incoming mail received in this directory . - Then sending mail from Inbox uses the default identity as sender and sending mail from Fabrice subfolder uses Fabrice identity All sent mails are left in sent mail box as i do not need to split them (bu i could it needed). What i do not understand is why you now need to right click to change the default identity and also that you need to send mails from a special directory for this identity to be used - i had found a workaround as you said but can't remeber it -

i don't understand why from the Inbox picking up an account in the Send drop down menu in the compose window of a mail does not suffice.
I definitely need to be in the Fabrice sub folder to be able to send with this identity .

When you associated an identity with that folder you in effect told it that whenever you reply to a thread that is in that folder you want people to know that it is from Fabrice. You could have other folders too, associated with Fabrice, it was relevant - for instance if you were Fabrice on a particular mailing list (there are other things you can do to help with mailing lists).
If you start a new thread or conversation while you are in that folder, it knows that 'Fabrice' is talking. If you start one while in one of the other folders it doesn't know whether you are Fabrice or Manchette - so it uses the default. I hope that explains it ![]()

NB : for those still looking for a way out please note it wasn't necessary to use Special Transports

Update :
Hello I'm not sure if you remember but recently you helped me with Kmail to be able to sent mails correctly with the correct identity when using different accounts. We found out a way , but it was different than the usual one i use (which was not working). I found today that what i had is working indeed : i had to erase .kde4 files under /root/.kde4 and /home/user/.kde4 which erased kmail settings. I then set up 2 accounts and 2 identities and i'm now able to send emails with a different identity using the "identity" option in a new message. This is the way is used to be, certainly fixed by a kmail update ![]()

And don't forget that you can associate an identity with a mail folder (right-click on the folder -> Properties uncheck "Use the Default Identity" and choose any other identity you have created.
