Kubuntu 10.04 32-bit
KDE 4.4.5 My system is fully up-to-date. With the help of this Forum, I previously got Kontact and Akonadi properly configured. My Kontact works with Akonadi perfectly. I would like to upgrade to KDE 4.5.1, but I want to know what will happen to Kontact. I installed a second Kubuntu 10.04 for 'testing' and updated it fully, and then upgraded (fully) to KDE 4.5.1. The first thing I notice is that there isn't a KDE Resources in System Settings anymore. What does that mean as far as Akonadi is concerned? If I upgrade my production Kubuntu 10.04, running KDE 4.4.5, which uses Akonadi, what will happen to Kontact? As said, under KDE 4.4.5, it works flawlessly, and I want assurance that it will continue to do so if I upgrade to KDE 4.5.1.

As far as I am aware, distributions are shipping KDE PIM from the KDE 4.4 release at this time.
A major difference with the Akonadi based KMail is that it shows an Akonadi style view of the email only resources on the Recieving tabs in KMail > Settings > Configure KMail > Servers. It will also claim a version number of 2 or later ( eg: 2.0.89 )

Okay, but what will an upgrade of my existing installation do to Kontact/Kmail? It is currently configured to use (because it's required) akonadi resources. In my testing installation of Kubuntu 10.04 KDE 4.5.1, I launched Kontact and configured it for my ISP email. I established folders under Personal Contacts and created an email entry within one of these folders. While creating the entry, I was able to access every field. The entry was saved. The first thing I noticed, was that I could not use the entries Nickname when creating a new email. I had to type the actual email address, and then it appeared in the pop-up 'pick list' window, but as 'Recent Addresses' and not in the folder I created it in. The second thing I discovered, is that when I edit my email contacts, all the fields are blank (even though I put data in them when they were created) except for the Display field, and, I could not edit any of the fields! (The fields do still contain the data I entered, as the contents are displayed in the third frame when I click on that contact) It's this behavior that I am seriously concerned about. If this is what will happen to my production Kubuntu 10.04 running KDE 4.4.5 if I upgrade to KDE 4.5.1, then I won't upgrade.
