Has there been any official word yet on the changes that will be made in the new KDEpim?
I installed beta 1 (unstable) on a virtual machine and it appeared that most the current changes revole around mail and Akonadi. Although I realize that the version that I tried is very early I was disappointed not to see what I thought would be some basic improvements like: - easy syncing with multiple Google calendars - easy syncing of contacts with Google contacts - easy syncing of todos to Google tasks The other thing that I had really hoped for was: some new ways to organize, view and manipulate large amounts of todos and events. (I use a variation of "Getting Things Done", and having easy access to the various filters from the drop-down list is very useful but not quite what is needed.) Developing the "time-tracker" into more of a "projects" module was one way of dealing with many of the todo's and events, but more ways to view the data would be most helpful (more like the wiki "Tracker" views info) I would like to see easier ways of moving and converting todos, events and notes around ... by simply dragging an item from one window into another (this would include all available views and windows). One last thing... the new "workbook" seemed to have some good potential... but there again... I would not use it unless I was able to insert images (NOT links) into it... ...so I hope that these are a few of the things that they will implement with the release of the new KDE pim... |

That has been the major focus of this development cycle. Almost all PIM developers have been and are working on various bits for that goal. It is a huge task.
Google integration is done by a developer working on his own schedule, i.e. releasing new versions of his resources when he has time. These resources live in a part of KDE's repository called "extragear", which is not restricted to follow the usual release cycle of main components. There was such a release recently: http://savago.wordpress.com/2010/09/08/ ... urces-1-2/
I am pretty confident that one of the next couple of releases will be a real "new features" release. At some point all the porting pains and modularization efforts will pay off and allow features to be added without fearing that something else will break. Cheers, _

I think it's true to say, too, that security of data has been the developers' first concern, and robust upgrade their second. I'm sure the rest will come.
